The Park, MGM Resort’s dynamic out-door dining and entertainment dis-trict, is a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip. The goal for the outdoor area was to create a space where stunning desert landscapes and cutting-edge design work in harmony.
Congratulations to Las Vegas Rock, recipient of a 2019 Pinnacle Award in the Architectural Carving/Lettering/Sculpture category for their work on the Arizona State University Barrett & O'Connor Washington Center in Washington, Dc. Judges commented: "Unique, individualized expression in a vertical plane. Bas relief is impressive with its expression of a sense of place, a sense of land forms. Great appreciation for the artistic hand of the sandblaster. It is meaningful and successful." Bravo!
The Meta Quartzite stone products have a variety of applications including landscape design, architecture, and interior design. This stone is pure silica bonded by quartz, making it a “glass grade silica sand.” The material is designed to be highly durable, have a high threshold for resistance to wear, and have a high slip resistance in the polished finish.
Las Vegas Rock holds 6 Pinnacle awards for their precise elaborate designs in marble. They extract meta-quartzite stone from just outside Goodsprings, NV to utilize it for a multitude of applications. Las Vegas Rock just finished using CAMWorks for a project at The Park on the strip in Las Vegas, NV for Landscape Rock.
Identifying the perfect building block for the Las Vegas Strip’s newest development was no short order.
To create more than 600 geometric stone pieces for The Park – MGM Resorts’ immersive outdoor dining and entertainment district taking shape on The Strip’s west side – the company and !melk, a landscape architecture and urban design practice, scoured options far and wide. The team sought material that was not only environmentally appropriate, but would beautifully complement the surrounding desert landscape and add eye-catching detail for visitors .

LAS VEGAS ROCK: ADAPTING TO A NEW BUSINESS STRATEGY
In the 1930s, Las Vegas Rock in Jean, NV, started off by extracting meta-quartzite stone. Since then, they have expanded to produce the “Vegas Cut” collection, landscape rock, flooring, custom stonework, slab material, windswept, cut-to-size panels, engraved signage, nominal split-face, random split-face and planking.
A project such as this one requires courage… a lot of courage. If it doesn’t turn out, it will be the laughing stock of the world of interior designers. The wellness floor of Las Vegas’ Cosmopolitan Hotel is supposed to give visitors the impression of a wild canyon landscape. The project seems to have turned out well, though – at least according to photos and information by various.
STONE CONTRIBUTES TO LEED CERTIFICATION FOR NEW LAS VEGAS LANDMARK – STONE WORLD
As the latest grand-scale project to be completed in Las Vegas, the City Center mixed-use complex features stone throughout its interior and exterior, with local stone cladding at the Aria Resort to connect it to the region and also help achieve LEED Gold Certification.
